December is over, and that means If I was doing what I was supposed to do i should have finished my December book challenge. Which I did! Lena Dunham’s biography Not That Kind Of Girl was an okay read. The book is written in different creative forms such as emails, lists & witty essays. I’m a big fan of the format, and honesty. She talks about everything from sex, what’s in her purse to her best and worst sexual experiences.
I do not think this stories needed to be turned in to a biography. I think it would’ve been an amazing blog, maybe on Medium or WordPress. I felt it was a book of her problems and how as a somewhat privileged Caucasian teenager that could afford to go to summer camp complained way to much. Why did I buy it? It was at a time when women empowerment was at an all time high and my esteem & relationship was on the outs. I started reading it and liked the way she mixed up the stories, with different formats. I’ve owned this book for probably 3 years, I decided to finish it because I wanted to start a new book. And keep better track of what I finished and started in my physical and digital libraries. One of my many goals in 2019 is to read a lot more.
Would I recommend this book to others? No, I felt it hard to get through and a unnecessary read. If you are a Lena Dunham fan go at it! I’m not a big fan of hers so maybe that’s why I wasn’t that into it.
Did you read this book? What did you think? Any book recommendations?
